Sophie Chatel discusses the Fall Economic Statement

The federal MP for Pontiac, Sophie Chatel, commented on the Fall Economic Statement unveiled on November 21 by her government. Sophie Chatel focused her intervention on inflation which has affected many Canadians in recent months. She was reassuring and said that the economic plan aimed at making life more affordable is working in her opinion.

“Yes, that’s good news. It is certain that the cost of food is always a little higher than 3.1%. It’s still decreasing inflation at the food level, but it’s good news for consumers and also those who will soon renew their mortgage in the next 3 years, there will be millions of Canadians renewing our mortgages and we obviously expect a significant increase in interest on the mortgage. Therefore, we expect that with a return to normal inflation, the Bank of Canada will, during the year 2024, begin to lower its interest rates. »

She also insisted on the construction of housing in order to improve the housing situation in the country. “On November 9, 2023, a historic agreement was signed between Canada and Quebec to finance the construction of housing. Each party agrees to pay $900 million, for a total of $1.8 billion. This amount will make it possible to create 8,000 social and affordable housing units, including 500 for people experiencing homelessness. These investments in housing will make it possible to create more than 23,000 new additional homes by 2027-2028 in Quebec,” says Sophie Chatel.
