The Ontario Hockey League recently held its annual Under-18 Priority Selection draft for players born in 2005 and 2006 who played the 2022-23 season with Under-18 teams in Ontario. This year’s draft saw the Soo Greyhounds select three players, including Toronto Red Wings U18 centre Jesse Venturo with the third overall pick. The team also picked goaltender Noah Tegelaar of the Guelph Jr. Gryphons U18 team in round two, and Kemptville 73s U18 centre Sydney Loreto in round three. Additionally, Soo Jr. Greyhounds forward Jacob Smith was picked up by the Ottawa 67’s, and Maverick Fletcher, another Jr. Greyhound, was drafted by the Erie Otters. Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis cited the team’s focus on identifying potential training camp invitees as their draft strategy.
