Sony’s DualSense Edge controller battery is 33 percent smaller than original – Gaming – News

The battery of Sony’s DualSense Edge controller has a size of 1050mAh, according to various teardown videos. This is two thirds of the original, which has a 1560mAh battery. Sony already said that the battery life would be ‘slightly shorter’.

The DualSense Edge controller came out on Thursday and several teardown videos of the device have since appeared. So has Youtube channel Restore Technique the battery taken out of the controller, revealing that it has a size of 1050mAh. The channel places the Edge battery next to the battery of the original DualSense controller, showing that the Edge battery is a lot smaller than that of the regular DualSense.

Sony had already indicated that the battery life of the Edge would be slightly shorter, but gave no figures at the time. It is also not clear whether Sony has implemented energy-saving functions with the Edge that can dampen the difference in battery size. The original controller that comes with the PlayStation 5 has a battery life of about twelve hours.

The battery of the Edge is smaller, among other things, because of the new sliders on the top of the controller, with which users can determine how far the triggers can be pressed. The YouTube channel also shows the operation of those triggers in the video. The new controller also has replaceable thumbsticks, more settings and profiles, and extra buttons on the back of the controller. Tweakers wrote at the end of last year a preview about the controller. The Edge costs 240 euros.
