The fourth-generation Xperia 5 is getting the sweet Android 13 treatment in Southeast Asia and Japan. To be precise, the update for Xperia 5 IV is currently being rolled out to the Asian dual-SIM variant (XQ-CQ72) of the device, while the update for the Japanese model is being rolled out to the NTT Docomo (SO -54C).

Sony Embedded software owners can identify the new update by the build number 64.1.A.0.857 (Asia) / 64.1.C.0.90 (NTT Docomo). The release includes the December 2022 Android security patches. At this time, we have no information on when the update will roll out to other types of these devices.

For Mark III series, Android 13 update is available as 61.2.A.0.382 (for Xperia 1 III) and 61.2.A.0.381 (for Xperia 5 III). On the other hand, Xperia Pro-I users should be able to spot the update with the 61.2.F.0.147 tag. However, the updates bring slightly outdated security patches in November 2022.

Once again, Southeast Asian models are leading the race meaning XQ-BC72 (1 III), XQ-BQ72 (5 III) and XQ-BE72 (Pro-I) variants should see soon an OTA prompt.

We should see the Android 13 update for the aforementioned devices reach more countries in the coming days and weeks. While you could try fiddling with Sony’s tool to download the update for your phone, tools developed by the XDA community like XDA make it much easier to skip the queue and download the new build directly from the company’s update server for the manual flash.
