Sonsbeck: Serious crash due to thick smoke on A 57 | Regional

Sonsbeck (North Rhine-Westphalia) – The wrecks of a BMW 5 Series and a Chevrolet Cruze face each other after a serious accident, totally destroyed. The impact was so severe that the guardrail bored into the rear of the Chevrolet. Rescue workers take care of the injured and secure the scene of the accident.

On Sunday evening around 9:28 p.m., the driver of a car driving between Sonsbeck and the Alps in the direction of Krefeld had an engine failure. There was a lot of smoke from the engine compartment and the thick smoke drifted over the motorway, so that the view for other road users was severely restricted in some areas.

The driver (62) of the BMW 5 Series from Cologne wanted to avoid the smoke and changed lanes, crashing into the Chevrolet, whose driver (45) from Gelsenkirchen had also changed lanes.

The rear of the Chevrolet was severely damaged, and the fuel tank was also completely torn to pieces

The Chevrolet driver was seriously injured in the hospital. The BMW driver was slightly injured and was able to leave the clinic after outpatient treatment.

For the duration of the rescue measures and the recording of the accident, the motorway in the direction of Krefeld had to be completely closed. The mission was over after around two hours.
