Son of Indro Warkop Shares Heartbreaking Story of Caring for Mother with Lung Cancer

Jakarta

Hada Kusumonegoro, son of Indro Warkop, shares his story about being a caregiver for his late mother, Nita Octobijanthy. Hada and her family played an important role when her late mother was diagnosed with lung cancer on August 10 2017.

Even though it was difficult, at that time Hada was always confident and tried to remain cheerful in front of her mother to encourage her. Hada tries to do her best so that her mother remains strong through her trials.

“I am an example of a successful aunt from a cancer fighting family, because I think my family is very united in getting through that one year and two months. We agreed to always be able to support and not burden my mother’s feelings,” she added when met in Tangerang, Banten, Thursday (1/ 2/2024).

Hada said that the mother initially experienced symptoms of coughing for six months. It didn’t even get better even after taking cough medicine. Apart from coughing, the mother also admitted that she experienced symptoms of fatigue. As a result, Hada’s mother decided to undergo an X-ray and take blood.

“We children were called, gathered, and the doctor said that the mother had cancer in the mediastinum, the mediastinum is the cavity between the lungs and the heart. So the position was quite deep, the biopsy was also difficult,” he added.

At that time the size of the cancer was 8.4 cm and was pressing on the superior vena cava which caused the mother’s head to swell. Hada said that initially he and his family thought the condition was due to the effects of the drug. However, after being investigated, it turned out that this condition was caused by the effects of the mother’s cancer.

Even though he was filled with sadness, Hada said he couldn’t cry for too long because he had to take care of his mother. He also said that his mother was fighting hard to recover, so he could not show his weak side.

For more than a year, Hada accompanied her mother to undergo treatment before she died.

“Well, this was the only time I cried when I found out my mother had cancer and the second time when my mother died. For a month or two I didn’t cry, I couldn’t. What was I crying for? I argued with my family until I was told to go to a psychologist. Even though I fine,” he said.

“That one year is the only time our family gets together most often. Just get together for work, don’t do anything, just get together,” he added.
