Solidarity aid for Alsace: the canton of Aargau takes over patients – canton (Aargau) – Aargau

Alsace is currently much more severely affected by the corona virus than the canton of Aargau. Against this background, the Coronavirus Coordination and Steering Committee of the Government Council responded to a request for help from the French authorities. France had asked the canton to take over two seriously ill patients from Alsace.

The committee, consisting of Landammann Markus Dieth and health director Jean-Pierre Gallati, saw this step as a sign of solidarity, as the canton wrote in a media release on Saturday. On Saturday, two patients from Colmar were flown to the Aarau Cantonal Hospital by helicopter. Both of them currently need to be intubated and are expected to be cared for in the intensive care unit for several more days.

The canton of Ticino also needs solidarity

Ticino, which was hard hit, also wants to transfer patients to German-speaking Switzerland. The government council of the canton of Aargau is also ready to help in solidarity. The Cantonal Medical Service of Aargau will identify patients with the Cantonese doctor from Ticino who urgently need to be transferred. These are then transported to the Aargau.

“Both acts of solidarity do not sustainably limit the capacity of the Aargau healthcare system to treat coronavirus patients from Aargau,” says the canton’s media release. (mma)
