KOMPAS.com – National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) announced that Surya Satellite-1 (SS-1), will head for the International Space Station (ISS) and be ready to go into orbit this year.
BRIN researchers said, after going through the design and testing process, satellite Surya Satellite-1 is 100 percent complete.

BRIN revealed that this satellite was launched with one of three space cargo options, including SpaceX Dragon, Cygnus, or H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV).

This test is carried out to ensure the size of the satellite, to match the size of the satellite Japanese Experiment Module Small Satellite Orbital Deployer (JSSOD) which is on the ISS.

“The test lasted about 15 minutes, and the result is that Surya Satellite-1 has passed the test. After this there sharp-edge test to ensure that there are no sharp edges on the outside of the satellite that could potentially injure astronauts,” he explained.
BRIN revealed that Solar Satellite-1 orbiting this year and carry the mission as a medium of communication.

Furthermore, Steven said that Surya Satellite-1 had passed various tests such as functional test, vacuum test, thermal test, vibration test, battery test, nor payload and communication test.
He explained, Surya Satellite-1 is a nano satellite or cubesat.
The mission of this satellite is Automatic Packet Reporting Systemwhich serves as a communication medium via satellite in the form of short text.
This technology can be developed for disaster mitigation, remote monitoring, and emergency communications.

The SS-1 project itself began in 2016, which began with a Ground Station Workshop with the Indonesian Amateur Radio Organization (ORARI).

Acting Head of the BRIN Satellite Technology Research Center, Wahyudi Hasbi said that the development of Surya Satellite-1 research was a collaboration of various domestic parties, both the private sector and the government.
“The development of this (Surya Satellite-1) satellite has also produced several international publications, Intellectual Property Rights (HKI), student apprenticeships, including the use of IPR, the results of the BRIN Satellite Technology Research Center,” said Wahyudi.
