Since the pandemia in the coronavirus has upset our lives, the masks have become part of the everyday objects. The most used by the population, obviously for economic reasons, are surgical ones. There are also other types, such as the Ffp2 and the Ffp3, but from today there is a decidedly hi-tech one: it’s called Social Mask and was made at Mit of Boston.

Designed by a Romanian engineer, Burzo Ciprian, Social Mask it was created by a special MIT laboratory, created to make high-tech masks. This mask, in fact, in addition to protecting, constantly measures the temperature of those who wear it, analyze the air quality surrounding to detect pathogens such as coronavirus and is capable of also identify asymptomatic patients. The Calvert Journal reports it, among others.

The technology is very reminiscent of that of smartphones and, specifically, of contact tracking apps. Social Mask in fact, it has a device consisting of a biosensor, a Bluetooth sensor and a small fan. On one of the two sides there is also a filter for better ventilation, a temperature sensor and a small LED screen that shows the body temperature of the wearer.

Made with plastic materials and thanks to 3D printing, Social Mask is able to alert the user immediately in the event of significant changes in body temperature or deterioration in air quality. According to its creator, this smart and hi-tech mask would work even better than the tracking app, as Immune: if there are people who wear it, the interaction is immediate up to a distance of 300 meters. Perhaps a little exaggerated and too powerful, but it is also true that in these cases, caution is never too much …
