Potsdam (dpa) – Jörg Buder did not feel like a loser. The narrow cup defeat against the supposedly overpowering runner-up RB Leipzig worried the SV Babelsberg 03 coach. “It hurts a lot,” said the 52-year-old after the brave regional soccer team’s 0-1. Having played “at eye level for a while” was just a moral reward for the Babelsbergers. For another cup coup like in the penalty drama in the first round against the SpVgg Greuther Fürth, the last courage and the momentum that an outsider needs was missing.
So Buder’s positive realization was that “the gap is not that big” to the country’s football industry greats, who will be playing against Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar in the premier class again next week. “We take a lot of self-confidence with us,” said Buder.
For Babelsberg, everyday life is not called Paris Saint-Germain, but Energie Cottbus. The Brandenburg derby in the Regionalliga-Nordost is a tension factor enough for the film townspeople, who let their fans, who were in a good mood despite the defeat, celebrate extensively. Buder knows that the return to fourth division reality has to be well planned. After the Fürth sensation there was a league defeat. “In Cottbus we also have to call up our performance,” demanded the coach.
So what is left of the DFB-Pokal besides a decent financial cushion? “The development is going in the right direction. The results are right, just like the path we have chosen,” stated Buder. The goal must be to play a good role not only this year – maybe then again in the cup.
