Freiburg (AP) – SC Freiburg has signed a new midfielder two days before its opening game in the Bundesliga. The 25-year-old Baptiste Santamaria comes from the French first division club SCO Angers, as the Breisgauer announced on Thursday. The club did not provide any information on the duration of the contract or the amount of the transfer fee. According to “Kicker” Santamaria should cost the Freiburg around ten million euros. The French would be the most expensive purchase in the club’s history.
“With his spectacularly unspectacular approach on the pitch, he will give our game the necessary balance and stability,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “There are many successful French players in the Bundesliga and I want to be an important Bundesliga player in Freiburg,” said newcomer Santamaria, who is wearing the number 8 shirt. “The club stands for stability and ambition.”
