Soccer ; An opportunity in (blood and) gold for the Rafettes

First since the fall, the Ruthénoises are looking for points to stay ahead until the end. Alone to play this weekend, they receive Nîmes, in Vabre (2:30 p.m.), Sunday March 27.

A match to put pressure on the pursuers. This weekend, Rodez is the only group team to play in the women’s D2 championship. The opportunity to take a little lead over Nice and Yzeure (2nd and 3rd, 5 points behind), a week after snatching victory from Montauban (4th) (1-2) in a match as physical as important for ranking.

Sunday March 27, the Ruthénoises receive Nîmes (9th) on the lawn of Vabre, for the 16th day late. On March 13, fifteen minutes before the meeting, which ultimately did not count, between the Aveyronnaises and the Gardoises began in Paul-Lignon, the rain turned into thick snow.

In the 14th minute, the referee decided to interrupt the match, before the game resumed, half an hour later, to be definitively stopped in the 19th minute. The snow, covering the whole field, hampered the visibility of the lines and the ball. A problem that the players will not have, this Sunday afternoon, in view of the announced sun. It only remains for the Rafettes to take advantage of these conditions to get important points for the end of the season. Especially since the snowflakes had not prevented the blood and gold striker, Zoé Stievenart, from opening the scoring in the 12th minute.

Five matches to go

And a week after the cancellation of her goal, the Ruthenoise added two achievements to her counter and offered victory to her teammates, in Montauban. A double that made her enter the top 10 scorers in the group, tied with her partner Cance, and two lengths behind Lamontagne (8 goals). The Canadian striker, injured in the foot during the match in Thonon-les-Bains on February 27, should soon be able to resume training. Good news for the end of the Ruthenian season. Because we will have to hold on until the end.

With the meeting of the day, the Rafettes have only five matches left to play, with the verdict of the climb scheduled for May 22. Mathieu Rufié’s players will play this last day at Le Puy (7th). But before that, they will have other challenges to overcome. After a confrontation with the red lantern, Mérignac, the Rafettes will travel to their runners-up in Nice on April 17. They will then receive the Grenoble women (6th) who gave them a hard time, at the beginning of January, in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. And the Ruthénoises, exempted on May 8, will have three weekends off before their last recital.

The group: Sieber, Libourel – Sureau, Sevenne, Riquelme, Bogi, Hall, Canon Guellati, Cance, Saunier, Champagnac, Altunkulak, Stievenart, Morton, Devaux.
