Jakarta

Who does not know flip flops Swallow? Legendary footwear that is easily found in various regions of Indonesia. The swallow flip flops seem to have become the mainstay of most Indonesians for everyday use, both in big cities and in remote villages.

So who is the real figure behind the legendary Swallow flip flops?

Mentioned from the company’s official website, Swallow flip flops are manufactured by a company called PT Sinar Jaya Prakarsa, a factory headquartered in Jalan Kamal Raya No. 1, RT 7 / RW 9, Tegal Alur, Kalideres, DKI Jakarta.

Sinar Jaya Prakarsa is a limited liability company founded on February 28, 1987. It was founded by Amir Djohan, who is currently the owner and commissioner of the company.

Sinar Jaya Prakarsa started his factory with around 500 employees and over the years it has grown to nearly 2,000 employees. Furthermore, the company has also progressed in innovation by adopting the latest machines and technologies.

Over time, Sinar Jaya Prakarsa has managed to learn how to manufacture and assemble their own machines, such as rubber-intensive mixers, slipper punch presses and many more.

Today, their factory has also increased its maximum capacity to nearly five times its initial capacity when it first started.

In addition, currently the product Swallow already exported to various countries of the world such as the Philippines, Malaysia and Somalia. Swallow itself is one of the most popular and oldest flip flop brands produced at the Sinar Jaya Prakarsa plant.

“This is a brand that almost all Indonesians know about because it is sold in almost all traditional and modern markets,” explained the company as quoted from its official website.

“The Swallod name and logo represent a swallow; a bird that represents freedom, growth and loyalty,” the company explained.

The Swallow flip flops themselves are said to be actually inspired by Japanese zori or Japanese style sandals.

Sinar Jaya Prakarsa explained that before rubber sandals were introduced and mass-produced around the world, Japanese zori or Japanese-style sandals were the most popular type of sandal. It was mainly introduced by American soldiers who returned home in sandals from Japan during World War II (1940).

Japanese zori are traditional Japanese footwear made of rice straw and lacquered wood and are often used in conjunction with traditional Japanese clothing, the kimono. After the advent of the Japanese zori, consumers of the product realized that due to the material used in the Japanese zori, the sandals became slippery and stiff.

Thus, with the emergence of the industrial industry, rubber proved to be the perfect material for use in the production of sandals. Rubber sandals are more flexible, durable and non-slippery.
