Snow chaos in Denmark – Must spend the night at Ikea

The snowy weather has meant that six customers and 21 employees have to spend the night inside Ikea’s department store in Aalborg.

It was Danmarks Radio that first reported the incident.

The reason for the overnight stay is a snowstorm that blocks them inside.

– We are getting ready for a pleasant evening in the staff canteen together with our six customers. And then the plan is that we open the exhibition area so that you can sleep on the sofas or find a bed for the night. Then we will see what the weather is like when we wake up, marketing manager Peter Elmose tells Dagbladet.

He says that there is a good atmosphere among the trapped people, and a little of everything is done throughout the evening.

– We have seen the Christmas calendar on TV, and now we have found some games, some of our cakes, some coffee and some soft drinks. Today’s occasion is also a party, so we have a beer and watch some football as well, Elmose continues and says that they have seen the match between Everton and Liverpool.

– Has everyone got a place to sleep?

– Yes. there is plenty of space so there is no problem.

The marketing manager says that he has never seen anything like it in his 16 years in the company.

The weather does not only create problems for Ikea customers. Snow on the roads in Denmark has also led to challenges.

On Twitter, the police in North Jutland state that they must help ambulances, which do not appear in the winter storm.

In a press release, reproduced by Danish BT, the police district asks all travelers to leave the car.

– I would like to emphasize: All driving is not recommended. Many roads are blocked right now and have been for several hours. The trucks in particular create problems and are the cause of queues and blocked roads, says deputy police inspector, Søren Pejtersen.
