American rappers Snoop Dogg and Master P have filed a lawsuit against retail giant Walmart and food manufacturing company Post Consumer Brands, alleging their conspiracy to sabotage their own cereal brand, Snoop Cereal. The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, accuses the companies of intentionally hiding and falsely claiming the product was out of stock. Lawyer Benjamin Crump, who represents the rappers, condemned the action as a “blatant disregard” for a black-owned business.

Companies Cite Low Sales, Rappers Allege a Strategy to Eliminate Competition

The lawsuit claims that the partnership between Broadus Foods, the food company founded by Snoop Dogg and Master P, and Post Consumer Brands was marred by an attempt by Post to “choke Broadus Foods out of the market.” The rappers allege that Post sought to intervene after their refusal to sell their company to the manufacturer by manipulating the availability of Snoop Cereal on Walmart’s shelves. Walmart and Post have responded by pointing to the lower than expected consumer demand and several other factors that may affect product sales.

Walmart and Post Accused of Deliberate Efforts to Suppress Snoop Cereal

The lawsuit further accuses Walmart and Post Consumer Brands of conspiring to ensure that Snoop Cereal never reaches consumers, thereby causing financial harm to Broadus Foods. It alleges that stories from unnamed Walmart employees and evidence from video footage corroborate their claims. The video footage shows Walmart employees performing store searches claiming the cereal to be out of stock, only to discover unopened shipments of Snoop Cereal in the storeroom.

Response from the Accused Companies

Walmart, in a statement, emphasized its “strong history of supporting entrepreneurs” and suggested that the sales of any specific product can be influenced by various factors. Post Consumer Brands expressed disappointment over the lower consumer demand and stated that substantial investments were made to support Broadus Foods. Both companies are to respond to the allegations made once they have had the opportunity to review the complete complaint.
