SNI rejects price controls to avoid drug speculation

The National Society of Industries (SNI) affirmed that the national pharmaceutical industry has not raised the prices of medicines due to COVID -19.

The union affirmed that Peru should not return to measures “as damaging as price control,” as some authorities suggest in cases of speculation and price increases in medicines, according to a statement.

This taking of position is a response to the debate that Congress will have to investigate and sanction price premiums in the face of numerous complaints made by citizens.

The president of the SNI, Ricardo Márquez, considered “urgent that there be more transparency and information” on the prices of medicines to avoid “abuses in the sale of medicines used for the coronavirus.”

So far, COVID-19 has left more than 94,000 infected and 2,800 dead.
