The flagship phone Android which was launched this year is considered quite expensive. But the price of a flagship cellphone sliding next year will likely make the wallet grimace from using chipset the more expensive one.
Quoted detikINET from Phone Arena on Monday (6/29/2020) rumors from South Korea said that the chipset Snapdragon 875 will be priced more expensive than its predecessor. This chipset will certainly be the vendor’s choice to power its flagship phones.
Snapdragon 875 is expected to be sold by Qualcomm for $ 250. This price includes an integrated Snapdragon X60 5G processor and modem.
Whereas currently Snapdragon 865 is sold to vendors with prices between USD 150-160. It means price Snapdragon 875 will be pegged at USD 100 more expensive than its predecessor.
If this rumor is true, the impact will be seen on the price of flagship phones which will be far more expensive considering the chipset alone will be USD 100 more expensive than before.
The same rumor source also said that Xiaomi was also debating how they set prices for the next flaghsip cell phone running Snapdragon 875. Xiaomi itself recently launched the Mi 10, powered by Snapdragon 865 at a price of Rp 9,999 million.
But this is certainly not just Xiaomi’s problem, considering that this chipset will be used in most flagship Android phones that will launch in 2021.
With the increasingly high price of flagship chipsets made by Qualcomm, it looks like vendors will switch to using Snapdragon 700 series chipsets. Some may even glance at chipsets made by Samsung and MediaTek.
Snapdragon 875 Qualcomm itself has not yet been announced, but its specifications and performance will outperform its predecessor. Snapdragon 875 will be made by TSMC and become the first Qualcomm processor with 5nm fabrication.
