SMRC Survey: Highest DKI Jakarta Residents Refuse Covid-19 Vaccination

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The results of the Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) survey recorded the percentage of DKI Jakarta residents who refuse Covid-19 vaccination the highest in Indonesia, namely 33 percent. Followed by East Java with 32 percent, then Banten with 31 percent. Meanwhile, the lowest percentage of refusals to be vaccinated was found in Central Java, namely 20 percent.

“This is an alarming finding, considering that DKI is an area with the highest spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia,” said Director of Research at SMRC, Deni Irvani, in a written statement on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.

The survey, which covers all provinces in Indonesia, was conducted on 28 February 2021 – 8 March 2021 using face-to-face interview method. The survey involved 1220 respondents who were randomly selected, with margin of error 3.07 percent.

According to Deni, the high rate of vaccine rejection in DKI Jakarta seems to be in line with perceptions about the safety of vaccines. In DKI Jakarta, as in Sumatra, the percentage of residents who do not believe that government vaccines are safe reaches 31 percent. On the other hand, only 19 percent of Central Java residents do not believe the government’s vaccines are safe.

Meanwhile, the highest percentages of willingness to be vaccinated were Batak (57 percent) and Javanese (56 percent).
