Small Bomb Explodes near Israeli Embassy in Cyprus; Israel Warns Citizens to Leave Jordan and Egypt; UN Staff Killed in Gaza

A small improvised bomb exploded near the Israeli embassy in the Cypriot capital Nicosia this morning, DPA reported.

Police detained four men aged between 17 and 21, Cyprus Radio reported, citing local authorities.

The improvised explosive device was detonated about 30 meters from the entrance of the Israeli embassy, BTA specifies. No damage to the building. The four men detained are believed to be from Syria.

At the same time, Israel called on its citizens to leave Jordan and Egypt immediately, AFP reported, citing an official statement.

Israel’s National Security Council justified the warning with the worsening of the situation with anti-Israel protests. He raised the degree of danger in Jordan and Egypt to the maximum, the fourth degree, BTA informed.

Such a warning has already been given to Turkey.

The danger level in Morocco was raised to level three, which means that Israelis are advised not to visit the country.

Two Israeli tourists and their local guide were killed by a police officer in the northern Egyptian city of Alexandria on October 8, a day after the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas attacked Israel, AFP reports.

The UN reported 17 of its staff killed in Gaza since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas

At least 17 staff members of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, the head of the organization, Philippe Lazzarini, said today, as quoted by France Press.

“So far, 17 of our colleagues have been confirmed dead in this brutal war. Unfortunately, the real number is likely to be higher,” the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said in a statement. Lazzarini pointed out that some of these people “were killed at home with their families while they slept.”

“I emphasize that since the outbreak of war on October 7, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East has regularly provided all parties to the conflict with the geolocation of all its infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. However, at least 35 buildings have been hit so far, some by direct strikes Lazzarini expressed dissatisfaction.

He noted that “in the Gaza Strip, continuous airstrikes and bombardments, combined with evacuation orders by Israeli forces, have displaced one million people and caused the deaths of far too many civilians,” and called for an “urgent humanitarian ceasefire.” BTA reports.

The buildings of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Palestinian Territory are “already overcrowded,” Lazzarini warned. He pointed out that 500 thousand residents of the enclave, which has a population of about 2.3 million people, have taken refuge there.

“I once again remind all parties (to the conflict) of their legal and non-negotiable obligation to protect the lives of civilians, wherever they are and at all times, and to refrain from attacks on civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, places for worship and civilian homes, including for employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, Lazzarini finally urged.

Al-Shabaab, the news agency of Hamas, meanwhile, said at least 13 people were killed today in an Israeli airstrike on the city of Deir al-Balah, in the central part of the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported.

Those people died in a single apartment building, the report, which has not been independently verified, said.
