Slovak Prime Minister Matovič: We can still harden our Czechs

For trips from the Czech Republic to Slovakia, either a negative test for coronavirus, which must not be older than 72 hours, or the onset of a five-day quarantine and subsequent testing for covid-19 will be required from Friday.

The obligation will not apply to commuters up to 30 kilometers from the nearest border crossing, to students, teachers, researchers, health professionals, farmers, social workers or in the so-called critical infrastructure, or to some athletes and artists.

In this context, the Prime Minister of the Slovak Government reiterated the extensive ties between the two countries. “The Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and I explained the inclusion of the Czech Republic in the list of red countries by telephone. Mr. Babiš is over the top, “Matovič added.

According to Matovič, the Czech Republic should increase the number of people tested for covid-19. Approximately every sixth tested was positive in the Czech Republic, which, according to Matovič, is also a very high number from the point of view of the World Health Organization. Slovakia has three to four percent positive of all tested. “This indicates that we are doing a sufficient number of tests in Slovakia and the Czechs should add significantly to reduce the percentage of positives in the entire group of test takers,” added the Prime Minister of Slovakia.

He reacted to the words of the Czech Prime Minister, who pointed out that Slovakia tests up to five times less. “I’m sorry, because epidemiologists have decided on some numbers and, of course, we could discuss who is testing and how,” Babiš said. “If on Sunday we had 6890 tests, then Slovakia had 1425, if on Friday we had 18 329 tests, then Slovakia 6191,” he added.
