Slovak Prime Minister Matovic wants to avert crisis with job swaps

Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovic wants to swap jobs with Finance Minister and fellow party member Eduard Heger. At a press conference, Matovic said he hopes this will end the coalition crisis over corona vaccines.

The other coalition parties have responded positively to his proposal. Earlier, one of the four coalition partners threatened to pull the plug from his cabinet if Matovic did not resign.

Earlier this week, he offered his resignation, but then he attached a number of conditions to that. Now Matovic said he is dropping all the mentioned conditions.

The coalition in Slovakia has been under great pressure since Matovic ordered a batch of the Russian corona vaccine Sputnik-V without consultation. This drug has not yet been approved in the EU and his coalition partners would have preferred to wait for approval.
