In total, there are now 1,358 corona patients in hospitals, 33 fewer than a day earlier. There are 1,201 people in the nursing wards with corona, a decrease of 43. In the intensive care units, this number increased by 10 to 157.
Last 24 hours, 169 new corona patients were admitted to the nursing wards. 12 patients with corona were brought in on the ICUs. That is 18 more than the total number of new patients that were brought in on Friday.
The LCPS does not distinguish between patients who have been admitted because of their corona infection and people who are in hospital for something else, but who also happen to be infected. The coordination center emphasizes that it does not matter for the pressure on hospital care who is in hospital with or because of corona. All patients with corona have to be nursed in isolation, which takes a lot of extra time.
Most infections in Amsterdam
Between Friday morning and Saturday morning, 67,229 new corona cases were reported to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). That is about a thousand fewer than Friday, when 68,320 new infections were identified after correction.
In the past seven days, RIVM registered 335,120 positive test results. That equates to an average of 47,874 new cases per day.
In the past 24 hours, most new infections were detected in Amsterdam, namely 2151 cases. In Groningen there were 1576 new cases. In Eindhoven 1745 cases were recorded. In Den Bosch there were 1539 new cases and in Maastricht 1316. Carnival was celebrated in these last three cities. There are also more positive tests in other places where many people celebrated carnival, such as Land van Cuijk (813), Oss (707) and Roosendaal (633).
RIVM reports nine new deaths on Saturday. This does not mean that these people have actually died in the past 24 hours, because it sometimes takes a while before a death from COVID-19 is reported to RIVM. On Friday, the institute registered ten people who died as a result of a corona infection.
