For the last time in the top three in Altenberg, Martins was in 2016/2017. during the season. In February, the youngest brother Dukurs did not succeed in the world championship on this track (only 16th place), and this was due to the wrong turn of the fourth turn. This is an important place on the track, because then you either manage to pick up the speed to the middle of the distance or it is significantly cleared. Before the race, Martin made small adjustments to the sledge to make it more convenient to leave the key. In both races, there was a slight rebound to the edge when moving to the fifth turn, but despite that, Martin had the third best result both times. The sled slid well. The Germans, Jung and Grother, drove the fourth round as after the textbook, so they rightly took first and second place. In the first trip, Thomas Dukurs also broke out without bouncing on the transition to the fifth turn, but the sleigh was cut crosswise after the 14th turn. One mistake at the bottom of the track was enough for the fourth best result. The second race was no longer so good (result 11), so Thomas dropped to 7th place in the sum.
In the World Cup standings, Martin rose from 7th to 3rd and Thomas from 19th to 14th.
In the women’s competition, Steel qualified for the second race for the first time in the season with the 18th result. After the fall of the Italian athlete Valentina Margalio, Andy climbed to the 17th place in the second race. To win a higher place, Andy needs to improve his start, and the sledge could be better. The result achieved in the next competition place in Winterberg will be more important in the starting line.
