Śląsk Wrocław – Ararat: The result and the report. Armenian fears chased away! League of European Conferences

  • The players of Ararat had nothing to lose – they lost by two goals in the first match, and in addition, the match in Poland was for them like a display window
  • Silesia had big problems, but ultimately did not allow its rivals to win. It is largely due to the first shotgun of Wrocław residents, Robert Pich
  • In the third round of the qualifying round of the League of European Conferences, Silesia will face Hapoel Beer Sheva. The Israelis played in the LE group last season

It was supposed to be light, easy and pleasant for Silesia. Of course, without exaggerating, because the Hungarian Fehervar, who was eliminated by them in the previous round, burned due to disregard for the Armenians. However, everyone agreed that the inhabitants of Wrocław, after the away victory (4: 2), would have to make an extraordinary joke to waste their advantage at home. It was close and it would have happened!

Nothing to lose

The only tiny concern was related to motivational issues. For the players of Ararat, the match at the Wrocław stadium was like posing in a shop window, perhaps the last chance for a slightly larger European audience this season. They had nothing to lose. The coach, Jacek Magiera, also drew attention to the uncomplicated style of play of the rivals, which could become their asset. He warned that they try to transport the ball to the opponent’s goal in the simplest way, and stubbornly look for a shot. It was their only chance of success – to score a goal as soon as possible and hope that the hosts would start to get nervous and, as a result, make mistakes. Leading the visitors by two goals would mean overtime.

They got down to work

Many of the disturbing forecasts have come true, except that it was the Wrocław team who, thanks to Robert Pich’s success in the last matches (he took advantage of the goalkeeper’s big mistake), quickly scored 1-0. You can say it’s unfortunate – because the ease with which they struck their rival plunged them into blissful lethargy. And finally, more and more boldly attacking guests at the end of the first half made two deadly actions similar to each other. They wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for the miserable game of the hosts in the middle of the pitch. The guests got into the penalty area at ease, they also dealt with the defenders without any problems and packed the ball into the net, specifically to Mory Kone, a striker from the Ivory Coast.

Awakening

At this point, the best thing that happened to Silesia was the referee’s whistle at the end of the first half. You had to take a deep breath, control your nerves, put your thoughts in order and get down to work after the break. Managed to. Rafał Makowski’s goal has not yet been recognized, because he was helping himself with his hand before he shot, but then there was no doubt – Szymon Lewkot and Pich scored goals again. Ararat equalized in the end, but could not wrest the promotion from Silesia.

His rival in the next round will be Hapoel Beer Sheva, who easily smashed the Bulgarian Arda Kardzhali 4-0 (in Bulgaria the Israeli team won 2-0). The first match on August 5 in Wrocław.
