The former defender of Liverpool, Zenit St. Petersburg and Fenerbahce can start for his native Ráztočno in the new season.
At the end of this season, it seemed that one of the most famous Slovak footballers of the new millennium had finally hung up his football boots.
“I have problems with my back and discs. I don’t remember a day that I spent without pain. For the last months, I played matches under injections and I had a problem walking a hundred meters with my son,” explained Škrtel at an emotional press conference, explaining why he can no longer play in the first league Trnava continue.
But as it became clear at the beginning of August, he left the door open to football after all. According to Slovak media the former stopper of Liverpool and other big clubs arranged a loan at the club Hajskala Ráztočno, which plays in the Prievidza district of the eighth highest Slovak competition.
The reason is simple, this is where the 37-year-old Škrtel comes from today, and he allegedly promised his uncle Ivan, who is the mayor and president of the football club in the village of approximately 1,200 people, that he would finish his career here.
Of course, the question remains whether his health problems will allow him to do so.
