Skrekas: Fine of 742,000 euros to the company “AINOS” for embezzlement – 2024-03-07 17:02:00

A fine of 742,000 euros was imposed on the company “Ainos”, as it obtained a higher gross profit margin than what is stipulated by the relevant legislation.

In particular, according to a relevant announcement, by decision of the Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, a fine of 742,000 euros is imposed on the frozen vegetable company “AINOS SA”, for violation of article 54 of Law 5045/29-07-2023 regarding the reduction of phenomena of unfair profiteering, following checks carried out by the Inter-Service Market Control Unit (DIMEA).

Specifically, after conducting close checks on 72 product codes (1/7/2023 to 30/9/2023), it was found that the company in 50 codes obtained a higher gross profit margin than what is stipulated by the relevant legislation.

The Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, said in this regard: “The battle to combat accuracy and the phenomena of profiteering is continuous and daily. Controls are ongoing, they will be intensified and where provided for by law, stiff fines will be imposed. We are not complacent until there is order and prosperity throughout the market. Cracking down on any illegal activity and protecting consumers is our obligation. The only criterion of the government and the Ministry of Development is the implementation of the law and the support of households affected by inflation.”

The beginning

The dance of fines on multinational companies was opened by the government on November 2, when the Ministry of Development imposed the first two fines, amounting to 1 million euros each, on a corresponding number of companies, for profiteering.

This is “PROCTER & GAMBLE HELLAS SOLELY INDIVIDUAL E.P.E.” and “ELAIS UNILEVER HELLAS AE” for which the audit by the Interdepartmental Market Control Unit (DIMEA) concluded that the gross profit margin ceiling law is violated, as it exceeds the corresponding gross profit margin before December 31, 2021.

It is recalled that Mr. Skrekas had reported on January 22 that the fines imposed on businesses in 2023 for unfair profiteering amounted to 12.8 million euros, according to the data he submitted to the Parliament.
