Škoda started serial production of enyaq on the same line as the Octavia

On Wednesday, the carmaker Škoda started serial production of its first electric car on the MEB platform, ie the Enyaq iV model. Production started in Mladá Boleslav on the same line that builds Octavia and Karoq cars, standing on the MQB platform.

In order for the line to handle this, approximately 840 million crowns had to be invested in its reconstruction. The reconstruction has been underway since last summer and included a change in the statics of the building and a new dimensioning of technologies for the transport of parts to manage the weight of battery electric cars and their individual components.

Enyaq iV, because it is an electric car on a completely different platform, “places … completely different requirements on production processes and sequence of production operations than models with an internal combustion engine,” explains Michael Oeljeklaus from Škoda Auto.

He adds that the Mladá Boleslav plant is the only company in the entire Volkswagen Group to have such a line, which manages to produce cars on MQB and MEB platforms.

The daily production capacity of enyaqs is up to 350 cars, but the line is flexible and the share of enyaqs in its total production can change as needed.
