The ski racer Nicole Schmidhofer, who is badly injured in the knee, has been operated successfully according to the association. “Contrary to the first reports, it is a complex knee injury that requires a longer break than expected,” said the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) after the operation carried out at the AUVA Unfallkrankenhaus Graz. Most recently there was talk of a tear in the cruciate ligament and the collateral ligament in the Styrian woman’s left knee.
Schmidhofer and a treating doctor will provide information about the degree of injury and the current state of health in a video press conference on Monday, the ÖSV announced on Sunday evening. Schmidhofer fell on Friday at the World Cup downhill in Val d’Isère. Austria’s speed team has to be one of its strongest drivers in the World Cup winter.
The athlete thanked her fans on Instagram for their recovery wishes: “We are looking ahead,” wrote the 31-year-old. “Who would have thought that the first race of the season would also be the last?”
