Six officers shot dead in northern Mexico

Six officers were shot dead in northern Mexico. They were ambushed in the middle of the night by a group of heavily armed men in about ten armored trucks, according to the security ministry of the state of Nuevo León. Then they were fired upon.

The ministry emphasized in a press statement that the agents had fought “heroically”. Four officers were injured in the attack.

Gang violence

Mexico has been dealing with bloody gang and drug violence for years, with attacks on the police not being shunned. Four more officers were killed last week after they were lured under false pretenses to a home in El Salto in Jalisco. Twelve people were killed in the firefight.

Also journalists who report on organized crime, for example, are not sure of their lives in the country. At the beginning of February, the port city of Salina Cruz was again the fifth journalist killed in Mexico this year.

In addition, two priests were murdered in a church in the northern state of Coahuila de Zaragoza last week. At the time, they were trying to protect a tourist guide from a drug gang. The guide was also shot. The murder of the priests was condemned by Pope Francis.
