Six injured in two alcohol accidents

According to the police, alcohol was involved in two serious traffic accidents that occurred in Tyrol on Sunday night.

In Innsbruck, a local drove into an underpass in the opposite direction and crashed head-on into a taxi. In East Tyrol, a 22-year-old drunk driver left Felbertauernstraße and rolled over.

A total of three vehicles were involved in the accident on Egger-Lienz-Strasse in Innsbruck. A 53-year-old car driver, who was also driving in the correct direction behind the taxi with two passengers, was unable to brake in time and ran into the taxi. The rescue workers had their hands full: the Innsbruck fire brigade had to free the 37-year-old taxi driver who was trapped in his vehicle with the rescue shears. He had suffered serious injuries. He and three other people had to be admitted to the Innsbruck clinic. “The 43-year-old driver who caused the accident was drunk,” said the police, “he will be reported.”

Too much alcohol in the blood, plus “currently no valid driver’s license”, the police announced about an accident driver in Matrei in Ostyrol. The 22-year-old had strayed from Felbertauernstraße, had touched a pasture gate, whereupon the vehicle slid along the embankment, overturned and came to rest on the driver’s side in an adjacent field. The driver and his 20-year-old passenger were able to free themselves and set the rescue chain in motion. The two were taken to the Lienz district hospital.
