Situation in Afghanistan – several countries concerned about executions of former military

The United States and other countries have expressed concern over reports of mass executions of former Afghan security forces by the Taliban.

“We are deeply concerned about the reports documented Human Rights Watch and others, “the statement reads.

The statement was signed by the US, EU, Australia, UK, Japan and other allies. According to this document, cases of enforced disappearances were also recorded.

The signatory states have accused the Taliban of acting contrary to a promise of amnesty for the former security forces. These are serious violations of human rights.

This week Human Rights Watch published a report on the execution or enforced disappearance of 47 former Afghan military and other security personnel who surrendered or were arrested by the Islamists.
