Radio maker Linde Merckpoel (35) received a bucket of negative reactions last week after she admitted in an interview with De Standaard that she does not always look forward to motherhood. Her colleague Siska Schoeters (38) comes to her aid in an open response. “It is already so very hard out there. Please let us be a little gentler on each other. ”

“I’ve been cursing, crying and panicking seriously lately,” said Linde Merckpoel. With motherhood approaching, she’s not always on the proverbial pink cloud. “Because something gigantic is coming my way that I cannot estimate, something that scares me and which will turn my whole life upside down,” she wrote.
“I read the interview of my girlfriend and dear colleague in the Standaard”, writes her colleague Siska Schoeters. And I thought, oh fine, good interview, baby. I sent her that I was proud of her. And then I hit the newspaper. ”
But then social media came to life and Merckpoel had to undergo a lot of negative reactions. “Some people called me a spoiled brat,” he said. “Totally disrespectful for the pain of people who – after many attempts – cannot conceive. Arrogant bitch. I should be grateful for the fantastic miracle that happened to me. ”
Pink, brown or green cloud
Schoeters would like to say something about all the responses: “Of course she only remembers the negative responses. Because that’s how we are, we work in the media, we are sensitive to negative reactions. Even though many people think that we consist of plastic, stone, silicone, botox and paid partnerships. You might think turquoise is a beautiful color. And maybe not Linde. Maybe you prefer to sleep upside down hanging from a rusted pipe. And perhaps Linde does not like that. Maybe you liked being pregnant. And not Linde. You can do all of that. But Linde too. Because you know: everyone in the world is fighting. Everybody.”
She pleads for more tolerance. “It is already so very hard out there. Let us be a little gentler on each other please. Any story may be told, even if you do not necessarily recognize yourself in it. Of the pink, brown or green cloud. From conscious / unconscious, from having to but not wanting, from wanting but not able to, vice versa. Anything. It is not necessary, but if someone wants to do that, then you can. ”
“Freedom, joy, do you know that?”, She ends her speech. “People say it like that. Live and let live. That we can continue for a long time. And plaice, and if you don’t drink it will stay full. Those are sayings, sayings, platitudes, call the child what you want. But all true. Dear Linde, a great three-time Radio 2 Summer Hit winner once whispered in my ear: “You’re no-hoo-hooit alone.” Do not forget that. I will now hang upside down from a rusted pipe. ”
