Singer R. Kelly sexually abused girls

According to the prosecutor’s office, the star of the R&B music style used its fame and lured its future victims to promises to help them in their music careers. Several of them testified that they were minors when the singer sexually abused them.

In a six-week trial, 11 people who accused the singer of sexual abuse also testified in court – nine women and two men. They described the sexual humiliation and violence Kelly was committing.

Kelly’s lawyers tried to portray the women who accused him of sexual abuse as former fans who felt cheated when they lost his favor. They also claimed that their sex with Kelly was voluntary, Reuters reported.

Crying in the courtroom

Kelly’s head was bowed as he read the jury’s decision, his face covered by a white veil. One of the women in the courtroom cried as she read the verdict. The singer’s legal attorney, Deveraux Cannick, later told reporters in front of the courtroom that the defense was disappointed by the jury’s findings.

Kelly is a three-time Grammy Award winner and is famous worldwide for his hit “I Believe I Can Fly”. The trial of him is the culmination of the accumulating suspicions and accusations that have reached the public in recent years. Many of them appeared in a 2019 documentary entitled “R. Kelly and His Victims.” The start of the trial was postponed several times due to the covid-19 pandemic.

In Illinois and Minnesota, R. Kelly faces another similar charge, which he also denies.
