Singapore, Turkey, United Arab Emirates: the places that Bukele will visit in 2022

License to leave the country between January and December 2022 was approved by the Legislative Assembly to the president of the republic, Nayib Bukele. With 63 votes in favor, the deputies approved the proposal, which was entered into the plenary session with dispensation from processing and without further discussion.

The trips he plans to make are to the following countries: Turkey, between January 15 and 21; United Arab Emirates, January 22-26; Kingdom of Spain, from February 26 to March 1; French Republic, March 2-5; Republic of Korea, in July; Republic of Singapore, in July; Russian Federation, in July; United Nations office, in September; Kingdom of Spain, in October 2022; and to the Republic of Italy, also in October.

Official visits, bilateral meetings with officials and businessmen, signing agreements, and “business work visits” are the activities he plans to do on these trips.

The permission granted by the Assembly to the president, however, also covers official missions that are not among those mentioned. “Given the dynamic nature of international relations, it is foreseeable that some international commitments of special importance to national interests will arise during the year,” Bukele justifies in the note he sent to the deputies.

The schedule shared by the executive means that Bukele will be absent from January 15 to 26, due to a trip to Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. In his absence, it should be the vice president, Félix Ulloa, who takes his place. If this is not possible, it would correspond to the presidential appointees; However, to date, more than two years after taking office, Bukele has not sent his nominees to the Assembly for the respective appointment.
