Singapore Airlines resumes the route to New York, one of the longest in the world – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – Singapore Airlines will resume nonstop flights between Singapore and New York from November, one of the longest air routes in the world, which had been interrupted in March by the covid-19 pandemic.

The route, which when it was launched in October 2018 was the longest on the planet, is carried out by Airbus A350-900 aircraft that travel around 16,700 kilometers between the Changi airports of the Asian city-state and John Fitzerald Kennedy, from New York in 18 hours and 45 minutes.

The Singaporean flag carrier plans to make three weekly flights from Singapore to New York and another three in the opposite direction from November 9, in which the crew will wear masks, gloves and goggles to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, according to a company statement.

The Singapore Airlines group, which operates the airline of the same name in addition to SilkAir and Scoot, announced last September that it would be forced to lay off some 2,400 employees as a result of the impact of the pandemic and forecast that its international passenger volume will not it will recover until 2024.

Singapore has closed its doors to virtually all of its foreign visitors to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had a huge effect on the country’s important aviation sector, which accounts for more than 12% of its GDP and employs some 375,000 workers.
