Simpson and Griffin, stop to white voice actors for colored characters

White actors will no longer lend their voices to play the black or non-white characters from the Simpsons series. The New York Post reports, pointing out that the decision was made by Fox which produces the series. “In the future – the network explained – in the Simpsons there will no longer be white actors who will give voice to non-white protagonists”. Already in January Hank Azaria had announced that he would no longer lend his voice to Apu, the Indian merchant who had always been involved in the affairs of the most ramshackle family on TV.

The decision comes on the wave of protests that flared up after the death of George Floyd, of which the Black Lives Matter movement was the interpreter. Fox’s new policy follows announcements from several white actors, including Jenny Slate and Kristen Bell, who will stop dubbing colored or non-white characters.

The turning point of the Simpsons is not an isolated case in the world of stars and stripes cartoons. Mike Henry has communicated via Twitter that he will no longer double Cleveland Brown, a colored character from the Family Guy series, famous in Italy with the title I Griffin: “It was an honor to play Cleveland for 20 years in Family Guy. I love this character, but people of color should play characters of color. For this, I will no longer play the role “.
