Simon Terodde: “Derby hero? That’s not what I’m talking about”

Hamburg. Simon terodde arrives on Tuesday in training clothes for the interview with the evening paper. Of the HSV striker apologizes at the beginning that he is four minutes late. “I’m sorry, I still had to put on long trousers,” says the 32-year-old and takes a seat on the west stand in the Volksparkstadion. The conversation takes place outside in compliance with all hygiene rules. Of the HSV want a few days before 104. City duel against the FC St. Pauli take no risk on Friday (6.30 p.m. / Sky). Terodde looks into the wide area of the arena and regrets that the derby – stand now – only takes place in front of 1000 spectators. But that doesn’t detract from his anticipation. The center forward celebrated a dream start at HSV. Five games, five wins, six goals, three braces. And now the striker even has his first song of his own.

Hamburger Abendblatt: Mr. Terodde, have you ever heard of Daweed?

Simon terodde: Since the weekend. The song was leaked to me by friends on Saturday after the game against Würzburg.

To explain: Daweed is a rapper from Hamburg who only released the song “Tormaschine Terodde” on Friday. Among other things, he raps from the double-pack King Terodde. That was before your two goals against Würzburg ..

Terodde: That worked out quite well (laughs). Cool thing. A song of my own is not a matter of course for a footballer and for me it is the first time. I really enjoy listening to German rap anyway. I like the song. And my friends too. This is something that you will probably like to listen to again later.

We want to talk to you about derbies before your first city duel with HSV against St. Pauli on Friday. You are a real derby expert, right?

Terodde: I’ve already played a few derbies and of course I realize that there is always only one topic in Hamburg before the city derby. But derby expert? I wouldn’t necessarily call myself that.

You are honored by your humility. We found three big derbies in which you scored decisive goals. With Union Berlin against Hertha BSC in the sold out Olympic Stadium. With Stuttgart in the Baden-Württemberg Derby in Karlsruhe. And with 1. FC Köln in the Rhenish derby against Mönchengladbach.

Terodde: Okay, that’s true from that point of view. Footballers naturally dream of such games. Especially a game like in Cologne. It was the first after my return during the winter break. As bottom of the table, we were six points behind. For Gladbach it was about the Champions League. I make it 2-1 with the final whistle in stoppage time. That was a goal that I watched a lot on YouTube.

Your biggest Derby moment personally?

Terodde: Definitely. My goal in the Berlin Olympic Stadium with Union against Hertha was also a special moment. But Cologne was even more emotional. Even before the game, the fans told us how important the derby is to them and that they don’t want to go to work in a bad mood. Special words have already been said.

Can you reveal which ones?

Terodde: For example, they told us that it doesn’t matter if we get relegated as long as we win the derby. That was a special motivation for us.

At HSV, the Ultras even gave a cabin address a few years ago before the derby. Was that the same in Cologne?

Terodde: So similar. Representatives from four fan groups came to the stadium and we exchanged ideas with the team. The fans have described their point of view. It had a positive effect for us. The derby victory then gave the whole city a boost. I also have a lot of Cologne fans in my family.

Your wife Laura, for example?

Terodde: My wife is from Leverkusen, so definitely not (laughs). But in my extended family. I grew up in Rhede near Bocholt in Westmünsterland. There are many Cologne and Gladbach fans in the region. But the Dortmund derby against Schalke was always a big topic in my home district of Borken.

Your father is a Bayern fan, right?

Terodde: Right. He still is. Back then he often took me to the Olympic Stadium when we were visiting our family nearby. As a child, I was often with my father in the Grotenburg in Krefeld or in the Schalke Park Stadium when the Bavarians came.

Which derbies do you remember when you started playing football?

Terodde: In my area around Bocholt, every game felt like a derby. My friends from back then, who now play in the regional league, only drive five minutes to away games. Work colleagues or friends play against each other. There is really something going on. As a spectator, you have to cover your ears from time to time.

Do you attend regional league games?

Terodde: Sure, of course. Especially the derbies, for example SV Krechting, my first club, against Rhede. There is a rivalry in the regional league like the Bundesliga.

Are you already feeling the derby mood in Hamburg?

Terodde: Not so much in town yet. Unfortunately, there are only a few fans there now. But when I talk to our guys who were there last season, the derby is a big topic. You lost both games against St. Pauli. I saw the second leg myself on TV. It started really well. The 0: 1 fell out of nowhere. The game showed that a derby has its own dynamic. I also expect a game like this on Friday. A city derby is simply particularly explosive. As a player, you just want the fans to go to work happily on Monday.

Daniel Thioune already mentioned the derby after the Würzburg game in the circle. What did he say? “Now we’re going to win the derby”?

Terodde: He didn’t say that. But he put the focus directly on the derby. It’s a very important game for the whole club.

After the Würzburg game, Thioune said that for him as a coach the derby was just an eleven against eleven. For her too?

Terodde: You don’t contradict the trainer (laughs). But he’s right. It’s going to be a close match. There is no favorite in such a derby. You saw that last time.

Do you remember any other Hamburg derbies?

Terodde: Of course, the 4-0 HSV in St. Pauli. With Cologne we were the direct competition for promotion. Lasogga has scored two goals. I sat at home and turned off the TV after the 3-0 win. At that point I was sure that Cologne and HSV would be promoted.

You know Pierre-Michel Lasogga well. Has he already told you how to become a derby hero at HSV?

Terodde: No. The game is not about me. Lasso and I keep in touch every now and then. He’s a good boy with his heart in the right place. And he’s the type of player I’ve always enjoyed watching. I didn’t understand why he was often on the bench at HSV at the start of the second division. He’s a classic goalscorer.
