Signs a memorandum on the prevention of human trafficking in the aviation sector / Article / LSM.lv

Latvia has recently become a transit country for human trafficking schemes, so on Monday, October 19, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the national airline airBaltic, the Ministry of the Interior, the Safe House Shelter and the Center Marta on the prevention of human trafficking in the aviation sector.

Latvia was once the country whose citizens became victims of human trafficking, but now it is the other way around. People from less developed countries are illegally employed in Latvia, or Latvians enslave people from third world countries somewhere else abroad. However, most Latvia is only a transit country for such schemes.

Harry Kadikis, a spokesman for the Safe House Shelter, said the signed memorandum and co-operation was aimed at “combating trafficking in human beings more effectively and recognizing victims of trafficking more quickly and as a system of co-ordination, how we can communicate with each other and then take some preventive action. ”.

“Latvia also tends to be a transit country in the field of human trafficking. This means that the victims are being transported through our country. The signing of such a memorandum will really ensure more effective action and monitoring in this area. These various institutions, which are signing this memorandum today, will cooperate with each other much more and much more effectively, ”said Kadikis.
