Bern, 04.06.2021 – By June 2, 2021, 2,701 reports of suspected adverse drug reactions (ADRs) from Covid-19 vaccinations had been evaluated in Switzerland. Most of the reports reported more than one reaction (a total of 7,065 reactions in the 2,701 reports, ie an average of 2.6 reactions per report). With 1,751 (64.8%) the majority of the reports were not serious, 950 (35.2%) reports were classified as serious.

The majority of the reports were made by medical professionals, 413 reports (15.3%) came directly from those affected or patients.

The mean age of those affected was 62.8 years (range 16–101), with 33% being 75 years or older. In the cases classified as serious, the mean age was 66.5 years, and in reports related to a time-related death it was 83.6 years.

The greater part of the reports related to women, in some reports the gender was not given. 1,120 (41.5%) of the reports relate to Comirnaty® from Pfizer / BioNTech and 1,538 (56.9%) to the Covid-19 vaccine from Moderna. In 43 (1.6%) of the cases the vaccine was unspecified.

The reports of adverse effects that have been received and analyzed so far do not change the positive benefit-risk profile of the Covid-19 vaccines used in Switzerland. Known side effects of the Covid-19 vaccines are listed in the drug information. These are continuously updated and published on www.swissmedicinfo.ch.
