In 2014, the actor from ‘The Divine Monster’, ‘Aspe’ and ‘Missing’ was diagnosed with aphasia, a brain disorder that affects the speech center. Gradually Michel lost his words, and about two years ago the disease had progressed so far that he was forced to say goodbye to the stage and audience in the Antwerp Roma. He now lives full-time in Amsterdam with his Dutch wife Irma Wijsman.

In February this year, on the occasion of a photo exhibition about her husband, Irma said that death was coming very close. “But it is clear to Michel: his time has not yet come,” she says. “And physically he may deteriorate quickly, yet he can still very well let you know what he does and does not want. As a couple, we still have enough moments when we can experience things together, and we also enjoy a lot together. Michel remains a Belgian: drinking doesn’t mean much to him anymore, but good food still makes him happy. And me too. ”
