The United Kingdom only had to announce that Portugal was going to be included in the list of countries without travel restrictions, for demand to skyrocket. In Madeira, reservations have doubled and, in the Algarve, the hotel sector is assessing the impact in the coming days.
With 20% of hotels closed due to lack of customers and a gap in the accounts of the tourism sector, the Algarve promises to continue with campaigns in the United Kingdom, to convince the main market to enjoy the region, the rest of the summer and autumn. At least five airlines line up in the strategy.
In Madeira, the decision of the British government to include Portugal as a safe destination has boosted reserves, in a summer in which tourist occupation has been at 40%.
British tourists are responsible for more than 3 billion euros of revenue for Portugal.
