Sibian vaccinated, died of covid – Doctor: “The association with the vaccine is speculative”

16 Sibiu people became infected with covid 19 after receiving the first or second dose of vaccine. One of them, an 80-year-old man, died before receiving the booster. However, doctors say that he had many comorbidities, and his death cannot be linked to any vaccine.

“Only one case of those completely vaccinated, infected shortly after or before the booster, with multiple comorbidities, has evolved unfavorably. He is about 80 years old. It is about COVID infection, any association of death with the vaccine being purely speculative “, said the doctor Victoria Bîrluţiu for Agerpres.

According to the chief infectious disease doctor from SCJU Sibiu, since the beginning of the vaccination campaign, five patients were hospitalized with COVID-19, after being vaccinated with at least one dose.

“Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign and until now, five vaccinated patients have been hospitalized in the Clinical Section of Infectious Diseases of SCJU Sibiu and confirmed positively after vaccination. Of these, three were vaccinated with a single dose of vaccine and two with both doses given. Only one case among those hospitalized is a doctor, contact at home with the infected mother SARS-CoV2 “, mentioned the doctor Victoria Bîrluţiu.

11 patients with COVID-19, who had previously been vaccinated, were also hospitalized at the Pneumoftiziology Hospital in Sibiu.

“From the beginning of the vaccination campaign until now, in the Sibiu Pneumoftiziology Hospital – COVID-19 section, 11 patients were hospitalized who had been vaccinated only with the first dose. Of these, 5 were vaccinated with the immunization serum from Pfizer, 4 with Astra Zeneca and 2 with Moderna “, the spokesperson of the hospital, Odeta Veştemean, declared for AGERPRES on Friday.

According to the quoted source, two of the 11 patients with COVID-19, previously immunized, were transferred to ATI in other hospitals, because their health condition worsened.

“Out of the 11 hospitalized patients, two people were transferred to ATI, due to the worsening of their health. Both people also suffered from other comorbidities – of a cardiovascular and hepatic nature. It is about a female patient – an 80-year-old person, who had been vaccinated on 19.01.2021 and hospitalized on 3.02.2021 (transferred on 7.02.2021) and a man aged 64 years old, who had been vaccinated on 1.03.2021 and hospitalized on 14.03.2021 (transferred on 15.03.2021) “, explained Odeta Veştemean.

Hospital doctors support vaccination as a solution to prevent COVID-19 disease and say the number of vaccinated people who were subsequently tested positive and needed hospitalization is very low, showing that “the vaccine is effective.”

“We mention that, since the beginning of the vaccination campaign, official data indicate a total of 57,780 doses of vaccine administered in the centers of Sibiu County, of which 39,711 people vaccinated with dose 1 and 18,069 people with dose 2. By comparison, the number of vaccinated which were subsequently tested positive and needed hospitalization is very low and indicates that the vaccine is effective and extremely necessary in the fight against the pandemic “, said on Friday, for AGERPRES, the manager of the Sibiu County Emergency Clinical Hospital, Florin Neag .
