The images of the Poelaert Square, crowded with people, on Sunday during the demonstration against racism, following the death of George Floyd, shocked more than one. Obviously not compared to the great mobilization justified for the cause, but for the health questions that this undeniably poses in the current context of epidemic where we count on the fingers of the hand the people that it is allowed to each to rub shoulders.
Should we expect a new outbreak in the coming days? And what message to send to the demonstrators? These are two questions that we asked Erika Vlieghe, head of the department of general internal medicine, infectious diseases and tropical medicine of UZ Antwerp and president of GEES, the group of experts in charge of designing the Belgian deconfinement strategy, as well as Dr Yves Coppieters, epidemiologist, professor at the ULB School of Public Health.
