Shops, social life …: what to remember from the measures announced by the National Security Council

Update on the measures announced.

Lhe National Security Council (CNS) met this Wednesday to examine the second phase – so-called 1B – of deconfinement. Update on the measures announced.

Businesses

Non-essential businesses can reopen Monday under strict conditions, announced Belgian Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès. Certain arrangements must be made: one customer per 10 square meters, for a maximum of 30 minutes, and compliance with safety distances. It will also be strongly recommended to wear protection covering the nose and mouth.

“Do your shopping alone,” added the Prime Minister, with the exception of children under the age of 18, who may be accompanied by a parent, as well as those in need of assistance. He is still asked to shop in a city “close” to his home.

Home visits

“The successive phases of deconfinement caused some people to be confused,” said the Prime Minister. The authorization to walk with a second person was not enough for the citizens. The physical distance from those we love is, in some cases, unbearable. This is why further expansion of social contacts is planned from Sunday. “

Each home can accommodate four people, always the same. The visit will preferably be in the garden if the family has one. If a family member is sick, the visit is prohibited.

Displacements

Public transport should be reserved for people who have no alternative. Contact professions other than medical care remain prohibited, and markets cannot resume at this stage. The itinerant merchants, food or not, will be able to restart their activities. Restaurants and bars remain closed.

“Deaths will still be deplored,” said Sophie Wilmès. This reality calls for our vigilance and discipline. We will not hesitate to go back if necessary. Health remains our priority. “

The sport

No sports competition, whether professional or amateur, can take place until July 31. The soccer championship cannot therefore resume until then, and the 2019-2020 Pro League season, which has been stopped since mid-March, could end due to the coronavirus crisis. The Belgian football body is due to rule on the matter on 15 May.

The Pro League will have to define the terms and consequences of this judgment, if it confirms it, during its GA. She will have to decide if there is a champion (Bruges), who will benefit from a European ticket, and also who will climb or be relegated. She will also have to position herself on the final of the Belgian Cup, rescheduled for the time on August 2.

The resumption of collective training would however be authorized from June 15 and the return to the stadiums could take place in August, with or without an audience, government directives will follow later.
