The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, among other things, cares about the safety of products that come into contact with food that are placed on the market. When it turns out that a product does not meet the standards, it is withdrawn from the market, usually several specific batches. For the sake of our health, we should not eat these products. The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate watches over the safety of consumers. The tasks of the institution include, among others, issuing decisions on the withdrawal of products from all over the country from all stores. After the decision is issued by the GIS, the stores remove the products from the shelves and consumers who have purchased such a product have the right to return it.
Typically, decisions issued by GIS apply to individual series or batches, not to each product. The justifications for recalling a product range from mislabeling to containing hazardous substances in the formulation.
GIS supervises and creates activities aimed at the well-being and public health of citizens. The task of GIS is to minimize the effects of events adversely affecting the lives of Poles – it informs, activates and educates.
The State Sanitary Inspection reports to the minister responsible for health. It is managed by the Chief Sanitary Inspector, who is the central body of government administration.
