Shooting star spectacle now in the sky at night :: wetter.at

Attention romantics: now it’s shooting star time in the sky again.

Vienna. The meteor stream of the Lyrids is now active again: the spectacle can be seen in the night sky for nine nights, preferably in the early morning hours. Falling stars hiss between the stars.

“I saw one, I could have been wished for”: The best time has now come for shooting star romantics. What we see in the sky is stardust. When entering the atmosphere, the dust particles of a comet burned up. They are only a few millimeters in size, but they hit the atmosphere at tremendous speed and make the air shine.

1982 was the last big shooting star year. Back then, up to 100 were counted per stune in the sky. This year it is not very much – but at least the shooting star rate is 18.
