Witnesses heard at least 20 gunshots
The traditional parade in Chicago on the occasion of the 4th of July – the Day of Independence of the USA, was canceled. The reason – a shooting in one of the suburbs of the city – “Highland Park”, reports the newspaper “Daily Mail”. According to Reuters, five people were killed and 16 others were injured.
Mass panic ensued when shots were fired. Thousands were watching a July 4th national holiday parade when the shooting broke out. People started running aimlessly and looking for cover.

Dozens of police patrol cars, fire engines and ambulances were seen at the scene of the shooting. Police urged citizens to avoid the area, which is north of downtown along the shores of Lake Michigan. A local newspaper wrote on its website that witnesses heard at least 20 gunshots.
