During his visit to the Vatican, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine exchanged gifts with the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Pope Francis on Thursday, March 25, received the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal at the Vatican, who during the meeting presented the pontiff with a statuette of a girl that symbolizes the Holodomor in Ukraine, reports Vatican Radio.

The Holy Father, in turn, presented the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a bas-relief Hand in hand, symbolizing brotherhood and mercy.

The pontiff’s conversation with the Ukrainian prime minister lasted about half an hour. Its content has not yet been reported.

Before meeting with the Pope, Denis Shmygal held talks at the State Secretariat of the Holy See.

“The parties focused on good bilateral relations between the Holy See and Ukraine, paying special attention to some topical issues of bilateral interest, as well as to various topics related to the life and activities of the Catholic Church in the country,” the message says.

The interlocutors also discussed the crisis in the healthcare system and the dramatic situation in eastern Ukraine, expressing the hope that recent violations of the ceasefire will give way to gestures that will contribute to a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Recall that in February last year, President Vladimir Zelensky and his wife also met with the Pope Francis. Later, the OP reported details of his visit to Italy and the Vatican.
