Disgusting finds have been made in the “Maidbronn Forest” between Versbach and Maidbronn several times – most recently on the last weekend in May. Because about 300 meters away from the Rochus chapel, the responsible tenant found animal remains packed in rubbish bags and yellow sacks.
The place of discovery in the thick beech forest is on a forest path, only about twenty meters from the edge of the forest. Despite the fact that the veterinary office and the police have in the meantime gained concrete insights into the nature of the animal remains, the population continues to be asked for support in finding the cause.
Not an isolated case
According to the experience of investigators, perpetrators often return to the scene of the crime. This could also have happened in this case. Despite the area that is heavily frequented by nature lovers through the tree educational trail of the forest body of Versbach, the slaughtering waste found there was not an isolated case. In summer 2018, a hunting tenant had registered the third find in the area in question. Since this is an environmental crime, specially trained officers from the water protection police are responsible for the investigation.
According to Christian Weiß, spokesman for the city of Würzburg, the first finds of illegally deposited slaughterhouse waste in the city area date back to 2011. “In contrast to the last finds, the offense was registered in Heidingsfeld at the time,” confirms Daniel Weber from the police inspection ( PI) Würzburg city.
Carcasses of different species
The animal waste found so far came from various animal species, including wild boar and lambs. The police therefore investigate according to the Animal By-Products Disposal Act (TierNebG). “According to Weber, the quantity deposited in each case gives rise to suspicions.” For reasons of investigation tactics, he does not say which it is.
The recent find was packed in four large plastic bags. First of all, the bags for the technical trace analysis were recovered unopened and the evaluation was not yet completed, said Weber. According to the Veterinary Office, the most recent case was poultry slaughterhouse waste, specifically goose carcasses. The city’s press spokesman confirmed that the disposal costs will initially be borne by the city of Würzburg until the cause is clarified.
Sheep heads with ears cut off
In December 2018, according to the tenant, 14 lamb or sheep heads were among the waste. In this context, Weber confirms descriptions of the hunting tenant that the ears were cut off at the heads. The ear tags for the official identification and registration of domestic and farm animals, by which the breeding establishment in question could have been assigned, were also missing. According to Weber, the illegal deposits are at least an administrative offense, possibly even a criminal offense. Specifically, this will result from further investigations.
Witnesses are asked to report to the Würzburg City Police Inspectorate on (0931) 4572230.
