Security interests usually confiscate holdings and antiquities that some try to smuggle in one way or another in order to trade them, but what happened in Peru a few days ago is strange and we rarely hear about it, as the police confiscated a mummy from the pre-Spanish invasion era estimated to be between “600 to 800 years old”, and the strangest thing is that they They found it in a heat-insulated bag belonging to a former home delivery worker who confirmed that it had been kept in his home for three decades.

And local and international media reported, according to what Al-Arabiya.net reviewed, that the Ministry of Culture indicated that the mummy, “dating back to the pre-Hispanic era,” estimated to be between “600 and 800 years old,” belonged to “a mummified adult male, probably descending from the eastern part of Puno region” in the Peruvian Andes, about 1,300 km southeast of the capital, Lima.

Police discovered the mummy during an inspection they conducted on Saturday in one of Bono’s gardens.

The 26-year-old man, whose name is Julio Cesar Bermejo, has been placed in pretrial detention, the authorities announced Tuesday.

According to a video clip that was widely circulated on social networks, Julio Cesar Bermejo explained to a local journalist that the mummy, which he “endearingly” called “Juanita”, had been kept for “nearly 30 years” in his family home.

He pointed out that his father obtained it from a policeman who owed him money, noting that she was in his room, sleeping next to him. He took care of her and preserved her, and considered her his spiritual friend, as he put it.

Quick analysis of the skull

According to the Ministry of Culture, the mummy belongs to “Juan, not Juanita”, as a result of a quick analysis of the skull, which proved that it belonged to a man of at least 45 years of age.
The ministry ordered the “immediate confiscation” of the mummy “to protect and preserve the heritage.”

Julio Cesar Bermejo denied any intention of selling the mummy, stressing that he was transporting it in a thermally insulated backpack to show it to his “friends” before donating it to a local museum.

Peru is rich in pre-Hispanic heritage. Among the most famous tourist destinations is the Machu Picchu castle, built in the fifteenth century by Emperor Pachacutic in the era of the Inca civilization near Cusco (south), the former capital of the Inca Empire.
